Merger between Miller, Coors beer
The makers of Coors and Miller
Lite plan to combine their U.S. brewing operations
in an effort to compete better against industry
leader Anheuser-Busch.
The joint venture announced Tuesday will be known as
MillerCoors and will have responsibility for selling
brands including Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft,
Coors, Coors Light and Molson Canadian in the U.S.
''It is clear Miller and Coors will be a stronger,
more competitive U.S brewer than either company can
be on its own,'' said Molson Coors Chief Executive
Leo Kiely, who will be the new CEO of the joint
venture.
The companies project MillerCoors will have combined
annual beer sales of 69 million U.S. barrels with
revenue of about $6.6 billion.

from all over the world can gather together for over two weeks and consume
mass quantities of beer.

The festival was created when the King and Queen of
Bavaria invited the citizens of Munich to celebrate the marriage of
Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese von
Sachsen-Hildburghausen.
-
The real festival takes place in Bavaria.
-
An average of 6 million people per year attend the
Bavarian festival.

Did you ever say, "I wish
I could get someone to poor me a beer
anytime I wanted one?" Well, now you can.

It appears to be
preparing a beer that it could
potentially pit against Coors Brewing
Company’s Blue Moon Belgian White Ale.
Anheuser-Busch
earlier this month filed a label
application with the federal government
for Shock Top Belgian White. It’s
described on the label as a “Belgian
style wheat ale brewed with spices.” In
other words, it sounds similar to Coors’
Blue Moon.
It’s understandable
that Anheuser-Busch would want to tap
into the success of Blue Moon. The
brand, which has gained popularity
through word-of-mouth and discovery, has
been one of the hottest brands in the
beer business.
Rolling out a Belgian
white ale would fit in with
Anheuser-Busch’s strategy of providing
its restricted distributor network with
brands in popular niches.
Interestingly, via
its arrangement with InBev,
Anheuser-Busch also markets the Belgian
brew Hoegaarden, billed as the “original
white ale.”

Chinese waitresses are busy filling up glasses of beer at the
counter of Hooters restaurant in Beijing, China. Hooters, a US
chain restaurant, famous for its waitresses dressed in short
orange shorts and t-shirts, opened their first outlet in the
capital Beijing, following Shanghai and Hangzhou |
Coors European
Properties GmbH, a related company,
earlier this summer filed a trademark
application with the U.S. Patent and
Trademark Office for a beer called
Maclachlan’s.
That brew was
launched this past May in Scotland by
Coors’ sibling Carling. It’s a dark beer
that goes head to head with the likes of
John Smith’s.
The trademark
application was submitted under a filing
basis that means “the applicant declares
it has a bona fide intention to use or
use through the applicant’s related
company or licensee the mark in commerce
or in connection with the identified
goods and/or services.”
Just because a
company files a trademark application
doesn’t mean it will launch a new
product. But an import such as
Maclachlan’s would fit in with Coors’
recently announced high-end beer
incubation group. The goal of that group
is to introduce new brews through a slow
build -- similar to the approach used to
grow Blue Moon.
Miller Chill was the
fastest-growing beer of the summer in
supermarkets, according to beer sales
statistics from Nielsen.
Miller Chill, which
was launched in test markets in February
and launched nationally over the course
of the summer, moved 896,968 cases in
supermarkets.

Slightly murky sand-colored beer with pleasant biscuity smell
but very little flavor. Unremarkable, and with a ridiculous name
that begs bad comparisons... (Bloody English.)

One Nose, One Beer
A Wisconsin man who can drink an
entire beer through his nose is headed to New York to try out for the David
Letterman David Letterman show.
Producers from the CBS late-night talk show called Chris Hansen after seeing
a YouTube video of him draining a plastic cup of beer at a busy sports bar
near Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Hansen, who co-owns The Sardine Can at 128 S.
Broadway in Green Bay with his cousin, Boyd Konowalski, has been drinking
beer through his nose for more than 30 years.
“Hey, that’s my secret. I can’t have everyone doing it,'’ he said. “It’s
just one of those stupid college pranks that stays with you. I don’t do it
every day. To be honest, I hadn’t done it in over a year. But when you’re
having fun you just add a little goofiness. I’m just goofy. Everyone will
tell you that.'’
What
Your Beer of Choice Says About You
Courtesy of collegehumor.com
Natural Light: I’m
a freshman who’s never had beer until a few nights ago. Since this is all
they served at the two frat parties I’ve been to, I assume this is how all
beer tastes so when people ask me what my favorite beer is, I’m going to say
Natty Light.
Keystone Light: I am a freshman that doesn’t
know a lot about beer, but I do know this…Natty is fucking gross.
Stella: I’m a pretentious prick.
Coors Light or Miller Light: After trying at
least a few beer brands, I have found that I prefer a fairly crisp,
moderately priced beer.
Bud Light: I enjoy moderately priced beer, but
I also let the hilarity or a Super bowl ad influence my drinking choices.
Miller High Life: I have never tasted beer before, but with a name like
“High Life,” it has to be good, right?
Rolling Rock: I like to drink beer that both
tastes pretty good AND has horsies on the bottle. Horsies are bad ass.
Corona: I prefer to drink the best no matter
what the cost. I either have a well-paying job while in college or I still
receive an allowance from my parents so I don’t know the value of a dollar.
Heineken: I think that if I drink imported
beer, people will think that I’m more sophisticated, even if it doesn’t
really taste good at all.
