The American Beer Drinking Club Does Not Promote
Excessive Drinking. If You Drink, Do NOT Drive!
The American

the millions of Beer Drinkers
in America. If you enjoy great beer, good times with friends, and the
camaraderie of beer drinkers across America, then there is no better
place to congregate than the American Beer Drinking
Club.
Welcome All!
Oktoberfest
For Beer drinkers, this is the best time of the year. Where Beer drinkers
from all over the world can gather together for over two weeks and consume
mass quantities of beer.
Did you know:
The first Oktoberfest took place in 1810.
The festival was created when the King and Queen of
Bavaria invited the citizens of Munich to celebrate the marriage of
Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese von
Sachsen-Hildburghausen.
The real festival takes place in Bavaria.
An average of 6 million people per year attend the
Bavarian festival.
Oktoberfest begins 16 days before the first Sunday in
October.
It is estimated that a third of Munich's production
of beer are consumed at Oktoberfest.
Tiny beer-swilling jungle creature may cure
hangovers, scientists say
A tiny beer-swilling, rodent-like
jungle creature which drinks the equivalent of a
case of 3.8 per cent beer every night and never gets
inebriated may hold the clue to the ultimate
hangover cure for humans, according to German
scientists.
The Malaysian pen-tailed tree
shrew drinks the beer-like fermented nectar of the
flowers of the bertram's palm in such quantities
that the equivalent amount of alcohol would cause a
human to collapse in a drunken stupor, say the
scientists from Bayreuth University in Germany.
They found that each night,
pen-tailed tree shrews drink copiously of the palm's
high-powered nectar. In fact, the tree shrews go on
a natural-palm-beer binge that lasts two and a half
hours on average per night.
The tiny creature has been living on a diet that is
the equivalent of nothing but beer for up to 55
million years - long before humans discovered the
art of brewing and distilling alcoholic beverages
some 9,000 years ago.
"Nevertheless, this Malaysian tree shrew is never
drunk. This suggests a beneficial effect, and sheds
a whole new light on the evolution of human
alcoholism.
The Bayreuth scientists speculate that the tree
shrew's body chemistry could hold beneficial clues
for medicinal treatment in humans - such as a cure
to the hangover.

And the Next Great
American Beer Will Be...?
Pabst may be worshiped by hipsters, but can it
replace Budweiser as the best classic domestic brew? The answer may
surprise you.
Since the beginning of this decade, Pabst Blue
Ribbon's audience has changed from old guys with refrigerators in their
garages to arty young urbanites. An unexceptional and declining brand, a
former top-three beer turned redneck also-ran, Pabst reinvented itself
as the coolest of brews in a movement that began in a Portland, Ore.,
dive bar and spread to indie-rock shows across the country.
But now Pabst is trying to move on from its success with hipsters to
conquer a far larger and very different demographic: all-American beer
drinkers alienated by Anheuser-Busch's sale to a Belgian corporation. In
its campaign to snatch Budweiser's title of Great American Lager, Pabst
is already employing the kind of slick, misleading marketing that's
bound to turn off hipsters who've embraced it as the anti-Bud. It may be
exactly the right move.
"Pabst Brewing Company will be the last of the famous iconic U.S.
brewers to be fully independent and American-owned," the company gloats
on its Web site. "Most of our brands ... have been around since the
1800's."
But Pabst's "We're an American Brand" claim may succeed. Since the Bud
sale, the only classic American-made beers left are tiny regional
brands. They're the real Great American Lagers, but in most of the
country, patriotic macro-brew drinkers can't find them. And Pabst's
emergence as a "trendy" beer demonstrates both the power of its
red-white-and-blue image, and its success at marketing, even when that
was achieved by barely marketing at all.

Beer
goggles: A drink or two really DOES make the
opposite sex more attractive
It is something that anyone who has
woken up regretting the night before has long
suspected.
Now researchers have finally proved
that beauty is in fact in the eye of the beer
holder, rather than the beholder.
According to a new study, people do
appear more attractive to both sexes when they've
had a drink and have their 'beer goggles' on.
As little as a pint and a half of
beer is enough to make everyone seem more desirable,
researchers have found.
Men are worst affected, with their
vision distorted or their 'goggles' lasting for as
long as 24 hours after a heavy drinking session.
The study, conducted at Bristol
University, involved male and female volunteers
being randomly allocated either a drink of vodka and
lime or a similar-tasting soft drink.
Half an hour later, they were asked
to rate the attractiveness of 20 male and 20 female
faces on a seven-point scale.
Those who had been drinking alcohol
scored the faces around 10 per cent higher than
those who had not.
The following day both sexes were
tested again and men who had drunk alcohol still
scored pictures of women more highly than the
non-drinkers.
The researchers concluded: 'Alcohol
consumption increases ratings of attractiveness of
facial stimuli.
'In addition, the effects of alcohol
consumption on ratings of attractiveness persist for
up to 24 hours after consumption but only in male
participants when rating female faces.''
Lead researcher Dr Marcus Munafo, an
experimental psychologist, said the findings helped
explain the phenomenon of drinkers having sex with
someone they would never normally consider while
sober.

Showing Candidate
Support With a Beer
The folks at the Half Moon Bay
Brewing Company thought all of the political
mudslinging could be offset, a bit, by creating
Obama Ale and McCain Ale. Now people on both sides
of the aisle can, all in good fun, show their
support for their favorite presidential candidate.
The Princeton brewery is set to
kick off a less-than-scientific poll — dubbed
“Alection08” — by tracking sales of each candidate’s
signature beers. Despite their opposing names, both
beers are traditional light English ales.
It's better with
beer
Try using your favorite ale when you cook. A real
flavor-enhancer for so many dishes, beer offers a
variety of styles that can provide anything from
smokiness to cocoa to sweet fruit.
As a rule, lighter beers are a suitable replacement
for white wine and darker beers for red wine.
According to the Beertown Brewer's Association, beer
can be used to:
* Lighten up a batter. Beer adds a lightness to
batter used to deep-fry items like fish and chicken.
Beer suggestions: Pale or amber lightly hopped lager
or ale.
* Deglaze the pan. A quick sauce for sautéed or
roasted items can be made by using beer to deglaze
the pan. Do not reduce the beer, as it may become
excessively bitter. Beer suggestions: Delicate or
intense, to match the nature of the dish, but
low-bitterness beers are preferred.
* Use in dressings and marinades. Beer can make a
great addition to salad dressings and marinades for
grilled meat or barbecue. Acidic ones can substitute
for vinegar in dressings. Beer suggestions: Pale,
low-bitterness beers for dressings; heartier amber
or brown beers for marinades.
* Steam or poach liquid. Although mussels steamed in
wheat bier is a classic, other great combinations
are possible. Beer suggestions: Witbier, weissbier,
other delicate, lightly-hopped brews.
* Replace or augment stock in soups and sauces. Many
beers can add richness to hearty soups or meat
gravy. Beer suggestions: Sweet stout, doppelbock,
Scotch ale.
* Make dessert even more luxurious. Strong, rich
beers may be substituted for other liquids in cakes
and other pastries. Fruit beers add another layer to
fruit compote or sauce. Or, make beer the star --
drop a scoop of ice cream into a glass of imperial
stout, and voilá, dessert! Beer suggestions: Sweet
stout, doppelbock, fruit beer.
